How to Make Money Writing Online

Since the Internet is largely based on text information, writing has become a primary choice for people to use when they want to make money online. Some people turn to writing because they've always dreamed of earning money from it, while others start writing just because they're decent at it and it's an in demand service online.

The Internet is huge though, and "writing" is a fairly broad topic. There are actually several different specific ways you can make money online with writing, so we'll look at several examples here.

1. Offer your services to other businesses and organizations. Being a service provider is similar to having a job, because you're doing work for other people. As a freelance online writer though, you have the ability to take on multiple clients and projects at once and this allows you to make as much money as you'd like.

One big drawback to providing writing services to others is that you are only one person. One person can only do so much work in a day, week, or month, so you have to limit the amount of work you take on to ensure you're able to complete it all in a timely manner, and with the level of quality your clients expect.

The second drawback to this option is finding clients. As a freelance writer who offers services to others, you must constantly spend time finding and securing new clients and work. If you don't do this, you may wake up one morning to find that all of your projects are finished, the money is spent, and there's nothing new in the pipeline to pay next month's bills with.

Offering services to clients can mean you're writing something simple like catalog product descriptions and website articles, or more specialty services such as brochure and sales letter copy.

2. Write articles for magazines and newspapers. Many traditional print magazines and newspapers now provide their content online too. In fact, some of them have switched to an online only format and given up the print publication all together. Regardless, they still pay quite well for quality written material.

Writing for magazines and newspapers can take a bit of effort and time to break in to, but once you start becoming established you'll find that plenty of publications pay as much as $1 per word. If you can land one feature article each month you could easily make well over $1000 per month as a magazine writer.

In most cases it helps to start by writing for smaller publications. Most of these don't pay a lot and some don't pay anything at all, but getting published in any magazine will help you become established. And once you're established with some publishing credits to your name, you'll be able to start landing the more lucrative contracts.

Like freelance writing for clients however, magazine writing entails constantly looking for new projects. You can't just sit back and wait for calls to come in or you'll find yourself with an empty bank account very quickly.

Another downside to magazine writing is that it can sometimes take several months to be paid for the work you've completed.

3. Write articles for specific information based websites such as Associated Content. There are many large content based websites online today who will pay you to write new content for them. Usually there are no special qualifications needed either, so these are popular places for beginning writers to start earning money.

Unfortunately the pay is not great at these sites. But it is a place for beginners to get started, and in most cases you don't have to wait months to receive the money you've earned. In fact, a couple of the most popular writing sites will pay you each week.

Associated Content is one such site. It allows you to write as many articles as you'd like, on practically any topic you'd like. They do have guidelines and rules you must abide by of course, and if they like the articles you submit you could be paid anywhere from $3 to $20 for each one.

Demand Studios is another popular site to earn money online from writing. This site has a long list of topics they want articles written for, and writers earn an average of $15 for each one they write that's accepted.

4. Create your own books and reports to sell. Most aspiring writers dream of being a published author someday. And on the Internet, that's actually very easy to do. In fact, anyone can write and sell their own books and reports, and when you're really good - or you have expert knowledge about a specific topic - it's an excellent way to make money online.

The easiest way to make money online by writing books is to create an electronic book, or ebook. These are usually published in Adobe PDF format, and customers are able to download the book immediately after making payment for them.

You can also use specialized print on demand services online to publish print books too. In fact, Amazon offers this service through a partner and it's an excellent way to not only become published, but to have your book listed for sale at Amazon and other big online bookstores too.
